Another great week of dancing! This was our first week trying two separate classes at the same time (level 1 & level 2) and it went great! Our level 1 class reviewed Guapea & Dame, plus learned Enchufe. Level 2 students reviewed all the moves from the past 2 months plus learned Sombrero & Saca la Vecina.
We'll keep going with our new schedule each Wednesday:
6pm Beginners - Guapea & Dame required to move up to level 1
6:30-7:30 Level 1 - Basic moves needed to move up to level 2
6:30-7:30 Level 2 - All the moves to dance the most fun rueda circles!
Enchufe: Enchufe (or Enchufla) is one of many rueda moves that involves switching partners.
Enchufe Doble: Enchufe Doble is one of the many variations of Enchufe. We'll teach them all!
Level 2 - Sombrero and Saca la Vecina
Sombrero: We started teaching Sombrero last week and we repeated it more thoroughly this week. You'll hear this move called in almost any rueda circle you dance. The follow's feet are the same as in Vacilala. The lead preps before the move on 7 just like Vacila. The difference is that the partners hold both hands throughout the move. Part of the lead's prep is to switch hands on 7: right to right and left to left, with the right hand above.
Another sombrero demo:
Saca la Vecina: "Take out the Neighbor." This quick & easy move is another way to switch partners. It's a great confidence-builder for newer dancers and leads to Exhibela which we'll learn next week! The video below shows another move we'll learn soon - Camina la Rueda. Watch video through 2:00 to see Saca la Vecina.
Beginners - Welcome! Guapea & Dame are your foundational moves
Guapea: Basic move in rueda (cuban style salsa dancing)
Dame: (Scroll down to see detailed step-by-step video.) Switch partners by lead bringing partner on right over to left. Dame is the same as Dile Que No - dame is what we call in a rueda circle and dile que no is what is done dancing one-on-one.
Dame: (Detailed step-by-step video, start at 2:00)
