Wed 18 Jun 2025 - Level 1: Vacila, Level 2: Patín

DJ Mario rocking the BIG sound system last night! It sounded great - crisp & clear sound with plenty of volume. The mix you chose for the social dance section was super-fun

Level 1 students did Vacílala and Vacílala con la Mano this week, and level 2 learned Patín and Patineta. Both levels reviewed all moves from previous weeks as always.

Level 2 - Patín & Patineta

Patineta: I'm always happy to do a rueda move where the follows get to do something fun too! This move features the follows going to the middle and doing cumbia moves before spinning back to their original lead.

Patín: Does this movement remind anyone of skating?  Me, no.  But it's a very fun group move where everyone has to sync together. That's the fun of rueda - when you feel everyone moving in unison and you're part of it. This is the lead version of Patineta - leads go to the middle and do cumbia moves together before spinning back to the next follow.

Level 1 - Vacílala & Vacílala con Mano

Vacílala: Vacílala con Mano is the same as Vacílala - just don't let go of the hands!  Many people just say Vacila instead of Vacílala. This move is fundamental to so many of the moves you'll learn in level 2 and beyond such as Sombrero, Setenta, etc.  The follow's feet do the same on all those moves. Leads, remember to prep on 7 !

Another Vacila video with rueda circle:

Beginners - Welcome! Guapea & Dame are your foundational moves

Guapea: Basic move in rueda (cuban style salsa dancing)

Dame: (Scroll down to see detailed step-by-step video.) Switch partners by lead bringing partner on right over to left. Dame is the same as Dile Que No - dame is what we call in a rueda circle and dile que no is what is done dancing one-on-one.

Dame: (Detailed step-by-step video, start at 2:00)
