Wed 2 July 2025 - Level 1: Adios, Level 2: Setenta

Another great week of dancing! It is so fun learning rueda together and so fun chatting after class and getting to know each other.

In this week's class, level 1 did Adios and Adios con la Hermana, while level 2 continued with Setenta. This move Setenta is a real accomplishment and a dividing line between beginner & intermediate rueda de casino. Both levels reviewed all moves from previous weeks as always.

DJ Mario's sound system and light show were on point again - great mix of Timba music!

Level 2 - Setenta

Setenta: What a milestone! Setenta (70) is one of the most important and most common rueda moves - and one that you only learn when you've grown to a certain level of experience.  As we master Setenta, we will see our dance skills grow and all rueda moves will become easier for us. Setenta leads to so many other moves too! 71, 72, 73, setenta complicado, etc etc.

Like so many moves, Setenta is a combination of moves we already know, just with different hand-holds. Watch the video and you'll see: (1) vacila with both hands leading to hammer-lock (2) enchufe (3) enchufe for lead (4) enchufe (5) dile que no.

Level 1 - Adios & Adios con la Hermana

Adios: With Adios, we switch partners just like with enchufe that we learned last week. It's a fun move because the two partners get to use each other's momentum to change places in the middle of the move.

Adios con la Hermana: This move combines adios and enchufe. It's different from both in that it does not involve a partner change! You start with adios and then the lead turns his/her back to the middle of the circle and does an enchufe with the follow, finishing with a dile que no with the same partner.

Beginners - Welcome! Guapea & Dame are your foundational moves

Guapea: Basic move in rueda (cuban style salsa dancing)

Dame: (Scroll down to see detailed step-by-step video.) Switch partners by lead bringing partner on right over to left. Dame is the same as Dile Que No - dame is what we call in a rueda circle and dile que no is what is done dancing one-on-one.

Dame: (Detailed step-by-step video, start at 2:00)
