Wed 1 Oct 2025 - Level 1: Vacila, Level 2: Cero
We had another great class this past Wednesday! Thanks to all our great regulars for making our Weds fun every week.
We need more follows! Please invite your friends who would like to be follows to our class. If they haven't danced before, ask them to arrive at 6pm for Beginners class.
This coming week in Level 1 we will do Vacila & Vacila con mano, two of the moves required to move up to Level 2. In Level 2 we'll learn a new move called Cero Doble and its variations, plus we'll review the three Bayamo moves we know.
See you all Weds 1 Oct!
Cero Doble: This fun & easy move is a great way to practice your technique with stepping to the salsa beat and syncing your moves with your partner. It starts with a enchufe and then the lead does a circle to lead's right and behind the follow. Then the follow does a circle around the lead's left and goes into the pocket for Dile Que No. Notice in the video how the partners go clockwise around each other and when in front of the partner they step the left foot over the right and then behind the partner they step the right foot behind the left.
Cero y Dame: There are many variations we can imagine for what to do with Cero - Cero y dame arriba, etc etc. We'll try out several of them on Wednesday. Here's Cero y Dame where the lead & follow do a quick Cero (not double) and then dame.
Vacílala: Vacílala con Mano is the same as Vacílala - just don't let go of the hands! Many people just say Vacila instead of Vacílala. This move is fundamental to so many of the moves you'll learn in level 2 and beyond such as Sombrero, Setenta, etc. The follow's feet do the same on all those moves. Leads, remember to prep on 7 !
Another Vacila video with rueda circle:
Guapea: Basic move in rueda (cuban style salsa dancing)
Dame: (Scroll down to see detailed step-by-step video.) Switch partners by lead bringing partner on right over to left. Dame is the same as Dile Que No - dame is what we call in a rueda circle and dile que no is what is done dancing one-on-one.
Dame: (Detailed step-by-step video, start at 2:00)
